Where pepperoni pizza comes from

Pepperoni is not actually Italian. It grew up in Italian-American butcher shops in the early 1900s, a drier, spicier cousin of the salami found in southern Italy, and American pizzerias were the first to put it on pizza.

From there it spread everywhere, and today it is a fixture on takeaway menus right across Britain.
